Privacy

This page covers one thing: what happens to a message you send through this site, either in the chat or the enquiry form.

What is kept

What you type, and the name and email address if you choose to give them. Nothing else is asked for. The form works without a name or an email — though without an email the only place a reply can reach you is the chat on this site.

Your browser is given a random conversation id so the chat can be reopened on a return visit. It identifies the conversation, not you. There are no advertising or analytics trackers on this site.

An approximate location — country and city — is recorded with an enquiry, so Dane knows roughly what part of the world he is replying to and in what time zone. It is worked out by the hosting network from the connection itself. Your IP address is not stored, and the location is a place rather than an address.

What it is used for

Answering the enquiry you sent. That is the whole purpose. It is not sold, shared, published, or added to a mailing list, and it is not used to train anything.

A reply may be drafted with the help of an automated assistant that Dane runs on his own machine and reviews. Your message is not sent to a third-party AI service.

Where it is held

In a database hosted by Turso in the EU, reachable only with a credential held by this site's server and Dane's own machine. The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs.

How long

Enquiries are cleared out periodically once they have been dealt with. They are not kept indefinitely.

Removing it

Delete this chat off this browser, under the chat, clears the conversation from your device. It does not delete the enquiry itself — Dane still has it, so he can answer you.

To have an enquiry deleted outright, email dane@doubell.co.za and say so. It will be removed, and you do not have to give a reason.
